Craniosacral therapy is a subtle healing treatment that uses light touch to support the innate intelligence of the original Self (Health) to emerge and allow oneself to be embraced by the Love at the center of Stillness.
Your body’s natural state is health. Health is ever present as the body is in a constant state of repair, regulation and regeneration. It is the intrinsic health of the human system, and Nature, which is always present supporting Life.
The foundation of a treatment is working with the craniosacral system and the gentle, natural motion of cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. We support the flow of fluid, liquid light, to move and nourish the central nervous system by making hands-on contacts.
Margaret’s practice of craniosacral therapy is inspired by the principle of traditional osteopathy as it was originally presented by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still (Osteopathy), Dr. William Garner Sutherland (Osteopathy in the Cranial Field), Dr. Rollin Becker (Cranial Osteopathy), and Dr. James Jealous (Biodynamics of Osteopathy). Her approach to craniosacral work is non-medical and does not include bio-mechanical or functional aspects.
The practice of craniosacral work has within it the simple holding of a bone as well as being conscious of all the forces operating in the client, including his/her highest spiritual nature. There is an understanding of the natural forces that organize form. We orient to a Divine ordering principle at work in the Universe and spiritual roots of creation. All expressions of life emerge out of stillness. There is an essential stillness that lies at our core as well as a series of tidal-like rhythms expressed through the body. The subtle motions are essentially produced by our inherent life force, called the Breath of Life. The Breath of Life acts as our most fundamental organizing force expressing health and vitality.
As the Breath of Life expresses itself in the body, a series of oceanic, tidal rhythms are generated throughout the body, producing subtle movements of all fluids and tissues. This motion significantly involves the central nervous system, cerebrospinal fluid and surrounding membranes and bones. It is the fluid systems of the body that distribute the essential potency of the Breath of Life. Fluid can be seen everywhere in Nature as the carrier of life. An ordering matrix carried into the body within these natural rhythms act as a blueprint for our wellbeing which is present from the moment of early embryological development, particularly our conception.
Emphasis during treatment is to support the resolution of trapped forces that underlie and govern patterns of disease and fragmentation in the body. These patterns are commonly caused by factors such as physical injuries, emotional and psychological stresses, trauma and toxicity. The intention of treatment is to facilitate the expression of the Breath of Life and so enhance the body’s own self-healing and self-regulating capabilities. This involves gently holding contacts on the body to support the release of patterns of inertia or congestion. It is a meditative touch, derived from the ancient art of laying-on of hands which has been practiced as a sacrament in all of the great spiritual traditions.
During a session you may experience a deep sense of relaxation as well as sensations such as heat, tingling or pulsations, as energy held in the body is discharged and integrated. The treatment often involves a process of letting go of patterns that inhibit your health.
A craniosacral session is 60 minutes in total - with 40 minutes of hands-on touch, 10 minutes before and after for discussion. A 90-minute session - with 70 minutes of hands-on touch and 10 minutes before and after for discussion.
